This shot was taken for the Easter series “Released” for The Ridge Fellowship in Leander, Texas. The series will focus on being released from things that hold us back and chain us down. This was the concept I developed. It will be used for series graphics, signage, door hangers, direct mailer cards and invite cards during their media push before Easter Sunday in April.

Cook Book Part 1

In September and October I did two shoots for ROAR Creative for a cook book they are producing. This was an amazing challenge. You would not believe the amount of work that goes into a shoot like this. Before it was said and done, we shot well over 100 different set-ups. Every one had to be different, and yet have the same style. Every piece of food, every background item, every color. It all had to work together to make food that wasn’t always beautiful, look beautiful. It was four of the most creative days I’ve ever experienced. These are just a few of my favorites from two of the days. I’ll post another set tomorrow.

Michael Torres

Below are a few of my favorites from a shoot with Michael Torres. Michael is the CEO of the Worldwide Maniac Foundation. It’s a group that brings together creative businesses in fashion, marketing and sports to raise awareness and money for their environmental work. These will be used to promote Michael as he speaks at conferences around the world. Photographed July 27th, 2010 in Austin, Texas.

Creating a Concert

As part of my shoots with ROAR Creative we had to have one photo of kids playing a concert. The problem was we had no concert. What we did have was three kids, two instruments and a microphone. So, we added in a little creative lighting and boom, instant concert. We couldn’t find a venue that would allow us to shoot so we had to improvise.

We finally ended up shooting at the Robin Bledsoe Park Amphitheater in Leander. I cut out all the ambient light and just used four lights to create the look we needed. Both the guitar play and lead singer had AB800s with grid spots to direct the light. The electric guitar player had an SB800 directed at his face. I had an additional SB800 behind them to create a little background light like you might see at a real concert.

I’ll give the models credit. They were able to create the look we wanted and did it all with no real music. In all the planning we didn’t think to bring something with big speakers, so all we had was an iPhone with its tiny speakers to play some music for them to act to. We even had a few onlookers in the park.

So, to create a concert, all you really need is three kids, three instruments, four lights, no venue and no music.

Hailey, Allison & Kaitlin Headshots

During last week’s shoots for ROAR Creative, we used Kaitlin as one of our models. A few days later, they were back in Austin to audition for Disney and needed some headshots. We had a great time during a quick session in downtown Austin. As someone with three sons, it’s a different world hanging out with three girls for a few hours.
